Originally hailing from Northwest Indiana, Ian graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.S. in Biology degree before making a bold pivot from the pre-medical track to pursue his true passion for film and television. His leap-of-faith journey led him to Florida State University Film School where he completed a Master of Fine Arts degree, honing his craft and laying the foundation for his successful career in the industry.
With a unique perspective informed by his background in both science and the arts, Ian approaches editing not only from an aesthetic standpoint but also with a deeper understanding of filmmaking physiology. He brings a holistic approach to his work, structuring and rethreading the intrinsic DNA of a scene while considering the way our eyes and brains receive and process information to create impactful and memorable cinematic experiences.
Beyond his expertise in editing, Ian is also a talented musician, bringing his musical sensibilities to the editing process. Proficient in guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, and piano and adept at playing-by-ear, he understands the nuances of dynamics, rhythm, texture, and tone -- all essential elements in compelling immersive storytelling.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Ian enjoys a diverse range of other hobbies, including world travel, snowboarding, beach volleyball, weight training, and video games. These interests not only fuel his creativity but also provide balance and inspiration, enriching his perspective both in and out of the editing room.
